Do I need an account?

No. There’s nothing to sign in to and nothing to buy: every feature is free. Your tabs, bookmarks, history and settings stay on your iPhone.

What is a Space?

A separate browsing identity, with its own tabs, bookmarks and Favorites, history, and cookies and logins. Signed in to a site in Work, you can be signed in to another account on the same site in Personal.

Private tabs, site settings, downloads, and search and privacy settings are shared by every Space.

How do I make a Space and switch to it?

In the tab switcher, tap + at the end of the row of Spaces along the top, or go to Settings › Browsing › Spaces › New Space…. Give it a name, a symbol and a color.

To switch, tap the Space in the tab switcher, hold the tabs button, or type its name in the address bar.

What’s the difference between a private tab and a burner tab?

Private tabs share one cookie jar. Nothing they do is saved, and everything in them goes when the last private tab closes.

A burner tab has a cookie jar of its own. It starts signed out of everything, no other tab can see it, private tabs included, and it’s deleted when you close the tab. Use one for a second account for a few minutes, or to see a site as a signed-out visitor does.

Hold the tabs button, or + in the tab switcher, and choose New Burner Tab. Or type burner in the address bar.

What does Links from Other Apps do?

It sends links to a site from other apps into the Space you pick, whichever Space you’re in, or always into a private tab. Set it in the site’s aA menu under Links from Other Apps, or in Settings › Browsing › Spaces › Links from Other Apps.

A site covers its subdomains, and the most specific wins: docs.google.com in Work beats google.com in Personal. Routes only apply to links from other apps, not to links you tap inside Parallax.

Links from other apps open in Glance, on a card over your tab. To open them as new tabs instead, turn off Settings › Browsing › Glance Links from Other Apps. Until Parallax can be your default browser, links reach it through Open in Parallax in the share sheet and the Open URL action in Shortcuts.

How do I hide part of a page, and bring it back?

Open the aA menu and choose Hide Elements, or type hide in the address bar. Tap what you want gone; Larger picks what’s around it. Tap Hide, then Done. It stays hidden on that site, and so does whatever the page puts in its place.

To bring it back, choose Show Hidden Elements in the aA menu. Or go to Settings › Privacy › Site Settings, pick the site, and swipe an element under Hidden Elements to show it again.

A site looks broken. What can I do?

Parallax may be blocking something the site needs. Open the aA menu on that site and turn off Block Trackers. That site can then load trackers and show cookie banners, and your filter lists stop applying to it. Every other site stays as it was.

If you turned off JavaScript for the site or hid something on it, the same menu turns those back. Settings › Privacy › Site Settings lists every site you’ve changed, and Reset Site Settings puts one back to the defaults.

How do I add a filter list like EasyList?

Go to Settings › Privacy › Filter Lists, enter the list’s https address and tap Add List, or tap Import File…. EasyList’s address is https://easylist.to/easylist/easylist.txt.

Lists in Adblock Plus syntax, hosts files and plain lists of domains all work. Each is converted on your iPhone, and rules WebKit can’t express are skipped. Parallax includes no lists, and downloads one only when you add or update it.

Which search engines can I use, and what are keywords?

DuckDuckGo is the default. Settings › Search › Search Engine also has Google, Bing, Brave, Startpage, Ecosia and Kagi, or takes any address with %s where the search goes.

A keyword searches one site: w swift searches Wikipedia for “swift”, and gh does the same on GitHub. The search goes only to that site, not through your search engine. Add your own in Settings › Search › Keywords.

Search suggestions are off until you turn them on.

Where do my downloads go?

In the Files app, under On My iPhone › Parallax › Downloads. In Parallax, tap ⋯ and choose Downloads.

A download keeps going when you switch apps. If one stops, Resume Download picks up where it left off. Pages you save as PDFs land there too.

How do I back up and restore?

Go to Settings › Bookmarks › Export Encrypted Backup and choose a passphrase. The backup keeps your Spaces and their routes, your bookmarks and folders, and your site settings, hidden elements and custom CSS included. History, tabs, keywords and logins aren’t in it.

To restore, tap Import Backup…, choose the file and type the same passphrase. Bookmarks you already have are skipped.

Keep the passphrase somewhere safe. Without it the backup can’t be opened, and I can’t recover it.

To move bookmarks to or from Safari, Chrome or Firefox, use Import Bookmarks… and Export Bookmarks… in the same place.

How do I lock Parallax with Face ID?

In Settings › Security, Require Face ID locks the whole app, and Lock Private Tabs locks only private tabs. Lock After sets how long Parallax waits after you leave it, and Hide in App Switcher covers your pages when Parallax isn’t in front.

Locking needs a passcode set on your iPhone.

Can I make Parallax my default browser?

Not yet. iOS offers an app as the default browser only once Apple grants it permission, and Parallax doesn’t have it yet. Until then, send links to Parallax with Open in Parallax in the share sheet.

The same permission lets WebKit offer passkeys, so for now signing in with a passkey doesn’t work in Parallax, and sites fall back to passwords.

Which languages is Parallax in?

English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal) and Simplified Chinese. Parallax follows your iPhone’s language.
