Parallax Privacy Policy
The same policy is in the app, under Settings › About › Privacy.
I don’t collect anything. There is no account to create, no analytics library, no crash reporter, and no ads.
Parallax has no server of its own. Pages load straight from the sites you visit, and nothing about your browsing is sent to me.
Your tabs, bookmarks, history and settings are in the app’s own folder on your phone, protected by the device passcode. If you export a backup, it’s encrypted with the passphrase you typed. I can’t open it, and I can’t recover it if you forget the passphrase.
The app asks for a permission, such as Face ID, at the moment it needs it and says why. If you say no, that one feature stops working and nothing else changes.
If a future version needs to change any of this, the app will tell you before it does.
In Parallax
Pages load straight from the sites you visit. Parallax doesn’t route them through a server of its own.
History stays on this phone and deletes itself after the period you pick in Settings. Private tabs keep nothing: no history, no cookies, no site settings, once the last one closes.
Search suggestions are off unless you turn them on. When they’re on, what you type in the address bar goes to your search engine as you type, without cookies.
The tracker list is Disconnect’s, the one Firefox uses. It and the cookie-banner list ship inside the app and change only with app updates. They’re never downloaded from a server.
Filter lists you add are downloaded from the address you give, only when you add or update them, without cookies.
Site icons come from the sites you visit, fetched without cookies and kept on this phone. No icon service is asked, private tabs add none, and Clear History removes them.
Websites can ask for the camera, microphone or location. You’re asked before any site gets them.
Who sees what
The policy above, sorted by who is on the other end.
- The sites you visit. Pages load straight from them, as in any browser. Their site icons come from them too, fetched without cookies.
- Your search engine. It gets what you search for. With search suggestions on, it also gets what you type in the address bar as you type, without cookies. A keyword search, like
w swift, goes only to that keyword’s site. - The hosts of filter lists you add. Each is asked for its list only when you add or update it, without cookies.
- Me, the developer. Nothing. Parallax has no server of its own, and the tracker and cookie-banner lists ship inside the app.
